Exhibition design for the international violin making exhibition “Gio Paolo Maggini, secoli di dettagli” — An exhibition showing more than thirty masterpieces among violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Five concerts. A journey to the rediscovery of those craftsmen operating in Brescia during the “Golden Century” of violin making, their heritage, the music their artists produced.
The idea behind the exhibition design focused the attention not only on the music instrument and its details but on the “phenomenon” as well that the instrument produces: the sound. To each exhibited instrument is linked a “box” in raw spruce wood boards (main material for a violin) that on top of carrying information about the instrument emits light and the sampled sound of the same.
Visiting the exhibition the different sounds overlap in the general semidarkness, reproducing the impression of a string orchestra tuning the instruments.
The double basses are exhibited separately in a grand salon creating a backdrop for the concerts hosted here, two platforms with different heights help the vision of the instrument at various levels to enjoy at best every detail.
